Fundikira works full time as an IT professional nevertheless he finds time to passionately paint. His dream is to paint full time one day. Fundi’s fascination with people, history and mystery has fuelled a compulsion to present a bold and emotive view of his world on canvass. His warm, strong tonal hues and abstract depiction of people and land are vibrant and fresh, and speak of his sense of people, places and landscapes he has been exposed in his travels. Fundi’s inspiration is drawn from his past memories and present day to day experiences. Fundi describe his creative process: “I am expressive and emotional this shows in my work as part of my thought process. Naturally I am inquisitive; I like dealing with the questions of what is reality? as opposed to perception of good and bad or right and wrong, this has an effect in the way I present my work, I intend to prompt the viewer to engage with all senses to experience my work and draw their own conclusion for themselves. In my work people cultures, history, places, past, present memories are expressed. I compulsively sketch to record when I travel, I start a painting referring to my sketches, in the process my inner instincts takes over to resolve the painting.
