This show is an internal conversation with myself it is about transformation and looking inward to find more and other ways of being aware.

Acrylic, oil & blackboard paints, fluro sprays and gold (imitation) leaf are used to create the series of mixed media paintings. As well various markers, pencils, chalks and some lettra set have been used.

These paintings are a continuation of me playing with colour, pattern and enjoying making marks on canvas.

I love:

  • being totally immersed in the “now” and creating something

  • that each image made from the one stencil is totally different, coming from something that is ostensibly the same

  • the fluro colours attract me while the gold works visually, giving texture and a hint of “lush”

  • that the “echidnas” and their colours change

  • being able to describe parts of my world in colour and images and seeing myself; what I think and what I tell myself

  • simply playing with paint, gold leaf, and what ever I have lying around and seeing what happens

For those who want a story [or you can make your own meaning which is much more fun]

The little ones are about transformation. Finding that what I think might work doesn't which then evolves in to something unexpected & simple that works.

The spiky loudness of the echidna, has through meditation, been transcended to something that is golden/precious/good.

Gold, which the creation of is the objective of in alchemy, can be read as transformation from some base element to gold - the transcending from the clutter of the mind to moments of peace.

Each painting can be thought of as a meditation practice, each has arisen out of the mind chatter to give moments of being totally in now. What arose in the mediations prompted the conversation that unfolds in the large paintings.

The large ones are the conversation with myself. Starting with where I am at, how it presents the energy and space from meditation, and the growth that results.
